A New Women’s Champion

Congratulations Garbine Muguruza! Venus tried her best but Garbine was just zoned in today. A lot of big hitting and great serving by both women.

And of course we couldn’t let the Championships go by with out some strawberries and cream.  Tomorrow will wrap up another great fortnight of tennis. Until tomorrow!

The Finals are Set!

We are coming to the finals and the endurance of Venus and Federer is amazing. It was 2005 when they both hoisted those trophies together. Can they do it together again 12 years later?!?!

It was wonderful to have the day to completely concentrate on the matches today. Sam Querrey did a great job today, but Cilic’s serve was just too much to handle. Sam’s long matches just caught up with him today. Even though Federer seemed frustrated, he was looking his usual elegant self on the court. He is just beautiful to watch on grass. A great run for Berdych, but he just ran into the timeless Roger Federer.

So a lineup like this at a venue like this deserved a lunch of British foods. Coronation chicken salad with all sorts of british crisps, orange Tango, and Hobnobs to finish it off.

Looking forward to tomorrow morning!

Bubbles and Take Away

The women’s final is set! Venus is just one match away from another Wimbledon title. This is so exciting. And to celebrate what better than some Lanson Champagne, the official champagne supplier of Wimbledon. And we will have curry takeaway for dinner. I know, strange combo, but two of my faves.

We have the day off tomorrow to just sit and watch the men’s semis. These should be two great matches. The serving of the Querrey Cilic match is going to be amazing! And the Federer Berdych is a classic match up that is going to be great to watch. Will Berdych FINALLY get a slam title?!?! Or will Fed keep it from it once again. We shall see.

Bangers and (S)mash

Well, I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Andy Murray and Novak going out in the same day, especially Novak by retirement. But great match by Sam Querrey! Amazing to see an American male in a semi again. And of course I’m loving seeing Federer get to the semis.

For tonight’s dinner, Bangers and Mash. We found Bistro gravy to put on top. My husband loves this instant gravy. It’s a messy pile of heaven for him.

The women’s semis are up next and I can’t wait to see Venus in action. Let’s see what happens next…

Bubble n Squeak for Manic Monday

What a day! The day all players left play (unless your prior match goes so long you get bumped into the next day). And it didn’t disappoint. Two American women and one American man through to the quarters (Go Venus!). And my fav Federer made it through. But that Rafa match… I had to listen at work and got a chance to watch some at lunch. I leave my desk thinking “It will be over when I get back”, but no. It just kept going and going and going. This is what I love about tennis. The dedication to the competition. The fight! What an effort by both Rafa and Gilles. This and the Murray match from last week are why I watch.

So I made a little noise of my own for dinner, Bubble and Squeak with roasted chicken. I actually did get a squeak when I made it once. It literally all puffed up and a little bubble popped and a squeak of steam came out. But not this time. Tasted really good, though.

Middle Sunday

I’m a day late with this, but yesterday was middle Sunday. The day Wimbledon lets the grass rest. As they point out, grass is the only living surface of tennis. And like all things living it needs a day off to regenerate. So while SW19 rests, we go play tennis.

I have this picture in several places on the site. This is my new Babolat Pure Drive 107. And I’m loving this racquet! It’s lighter and larger than my last racquet. I have wrist issues and this has let me get back to playing where I was before. I can now drive through the ball and there is no pain in my wrist. I got this at Tim’s Racquet and thank them so much for all of their help in getting the right racquet in my hand.

Wake up to Wimbledon!

Middle Saturday. It’s so nice to wake up to a full day of matches and we have set aside the day to watch. We’re having tea from the iconic Fortnum and Mason. Good start to the day for Sam Querrey, even though I’m sad to see Jo-Willy Tsonga go – he’s one of my long standing favorites. And the American women are looking good! It’s been a crazy week for the women, so many favorites to win getting knocked out. And so many good wishes for Bethanie Mattek-Sands on her recovery for her heartbreaking injury. I hope everyone get some time to watch some of the coverage today. Have a happy Wimbledon day!

Pimm’s O’Clock

Another exciting day of Wimbledon coverage thanks to Wimbledon Radio! Now we can watch the recap with the season’s first Pimm’s and chicken and leek pie. Sorry to see Kvitova go, I was hoping the best for her after the last 9 months she had. Loving that Stevie Johnson is moving on. Looking forward to Federer playing tomorrow.

Scones and DelPo

Good morning! A day off with hours of W. Starting my morning with Scones and a DelPo match. Have to have my Harney and Sons Dorchester Breakfast Tea. We were lucky enough to stay at the Dorchester in London for a weekend (Wow! that is all I can say about that place. Amazing) and discovered this tea there. Happy July 4th to everyone and enjoy the tennis. My highlight match today is of course Federer back on the grass of the Championships.

Happy Wimbledon!

Happy Wimbledon Fortnight Everyone! I was at work today, so my line to all the excitement was Wimbledon Radio. I have been listening to these announcers for years, and they are FANTASTIC! Thank you to all of them. My favorite announcer is Gigi Salmon. And to settle in to watch the wrap up tonight we are having fish n chips with mushy peas, and my husband’s beer. This is my first attempt at mush peas and they didn’t end up quite as mushy as they should have. So, here the 2017 Championships start.
